Undergraduate students who have been accepted to present research or creative projects at academic and professional conferences are eligible to apply for support through the USP. 

  • These awards are non-competitive; qualified applicants will receive awards contingent on availability of funds. 
  • Funding awarded by the USP will be transferred to the student’s home or research department to ensure that funding is disbursed in accordance with department and university policies.  Before applying, gather your home department's accountant contact information. 
  • The USP does not provide funding for research travel.  If you are seeking funding for travel related to a research project, please apply to the USP Research Grant program and include travel expenses in your budget.

Students applying for Travel and Conference Awards can now be awarded up to $750

  • These awards are non-competitive; qualified applicants will receive awards contingent on availability of funds. 
  • Funding awarded by USP will be transferred to the student’s home or research department to ensure that funding is disbursed in accordance with department and university policies.  Before applying, be sure to gather your home department's accountant contact information. 
  • USP does not provide funding for travel related to research projects.  If you are seeking funding for travel related to a research project, please apply to the USP Research Grant program and include travel expenses in your budget.

Use this form to submit an abstract of your presentation for the MSU Student Research Celebration. 

Abstracts should summarize your project and results. A 250-word limit is requested for publishing and formatting reasons though not required.  Please double check your spelling and grammar. This will be published for public viewing.

To submit a complete application, USP recommends that you prepare the following required documents before you start the application. 

  1.  5-page research proposal project description in PDF format.
  2. If you have received USP funding in the past, you must include a 1-2 page summary of your research results in PDF format. You may also use this document to describe other, non-USP research experience that your have had. 
  3. You MUST enter your research mentor's official MSU email. Find your mentor's email official email using the MSU Faculty/Staff Directory.
  4. Optional: The USP budget template can be used to help you plan your budget. The template can be attached to your application to provide details that cannot be included in the online budget entry tool.
